    Resumen

In this paper we address how the variety of Arabic used in the audiovisual medium has evolved. We focus on the period since satellite broadcasts began, which led to many changes in the linguistic panorama of the audiovisual media. We highlight the key role fictional programmes have made, especially TV series. These series are of interest because of the way viewers naturally accept the language used, since they are broadcast daily, and the realism they try to portray, attempting to identify with the audience. They reflect the sociolinguistics of Arabic: the contrast between formal Arabic and dialects, and the hegemony of some dialects over others.
