Resumen
Reviewed in this paper is the silver-selective electrodes based on transport-assisted liquid membranes supported on polymeric organic matrices. Transport-assisted membranes are advanced materials that can perform specific chemical separation and chemical determination tasks. A potentiometric device giving an electrical Nerstian response proportional to the chemical activity of the specific ionic species being analyzed is the membrane-based ion selective electrode. The multi-purpose nature of silver makes its analysis in, and recovery from, waste material of importance. The d10 transition metal ions Ag+ and Hg2+ displays singular coordination characteristics both favoring linear or pseudo-linear coordination and they also display great affinity for soft coordination centers such as sulfur, as well as other elements of the second and third transition metal series.
