Resumen
In 1913 the name and the works of Rabindranāth Tagore began to circulate among several European literatures. In Catalonia many of these first references came through French and Spanish literature. This article reviews both the mentions of Tagore in Catalan publications and the first translations of his works into Catalan. The study of his reception and of the intervening mediation processes illustrates how at the time the incorporation of foreign authors was valued above all as a modernizing practice, independently of the nature of the translated literary works themselves.
