Resumen

This article contains several studies about paintings of the first half of the Sixteenth Century in the Museu Episcopal de Vic (near Barcelona). Firstly, it is attributed to the french painter Jean Bourdichon a little illuminated parchment with an image of the Virgin, that was acquired by the museum in 1920 and catalogated as anonymous. The remaining sections are devoted to pieces produced in Catalonia, as the retable of the Trinity for a chapel of the «Seu» of Manresa, by the catalan painter Gabriel Guàrdia, or a little Nativity that I atribute here to Pere (Perris) de Fontaines, a painter originary of Béthune (in Artois, then a «flemish» burgundian territoy). The next two epigraphs are devoted to the production of the workshop of Joan Gascó and his sons. Of navarrese origins, Joan Gascó (or Joan Navarro) arrived in Catalonia around the first years of the Sixteenth Century and installed his wiorkshop in the city of Vic, working for a local clientele mainly in the Plana de Vic, but also for many villages in the Vallès Oriental. In these sections I examine the historiographical fortunes of Gascons, and propose a new critical approach to, and a new articulation of, the catalogue of their oeuvre, mainly that of Joan Gascó («Gascó I»), of a «Gascó II» identified as Perot Gascó, and of a «Gascó III» that must be identified as another son of Joan (Sebastià or Francesc). The last epigraph explains the propagation in the Palana de Vic of a more classicist midcentury style, a certain «romanism», mainly cultivated by painters working in Barcelona.
