Resumen

© Koninklijke Brill NV, Leiden, 2015. Robert of Ketton completed his translation of the Qur.an in Latin in 1143 at the behest of Peter the Venerable. This translation, the first into any Western language, was highly influential on later encounters with the Qur.an by Western Christians, being published in 1543 and used extensively in polemical writing on Islam and by future translators of the Qur.an. The oldest manuscript of Ketton's Qur.an, Bibliothèque National de France, ms. Arsenal 1162, contains numerous Latin glosses to the text, both polemical and philological, only some of which have been properly studied. This article offers the first full edition of the Latin glosses to Ketton's Latin Qur.an in ms. Arsenal 1162, facilitating the further study of the history of Latin Qur.ans and of Christian-Muslim relations in the Middle Ages.
