Resumen
This paper aims to reconstruct the reception of the early work of Salvador Espriu between 1931 and 1937, when he was a young author of stories and novels that caused controversy both for his vision of life and his literary style (El Doctor Rip, Laia, Aspectes, Ariadna al laberint grotesc, Miratge a Citerea and Letícia i altres proses). By analizing the critical reception of those works by prominent critics like Carles Soldevila, Bartomeu Rosselló-Porcel, Josep Pla and Manuel de Montoliu, Espriu emerges as a prototype of the modern writer who fights against the literary taste and the linguistic conventions of the older noucentista generation, emphasizing thus the difference with his status as the national poet of the post-war years
