Resumen
This paper describes the consumption of Italian and Tarraconense wine in Herrera de Pisuerga in an early horizon from c. 24 BCE to 48 CE based on amphora imports. It is based on the excavation of dumping area outside the military camp known as La Chorquilla, which documents in detail the pattern of consumption of this period. Herrera de Pisuerga has a special amphora assemblage compared to other towns in the NW Hispania Citerior because of its quantities and variety. One of the most outstanding differences is the quantity and variety of amphora from the same Tarraconensis province, not only from the coast (Pascual 1, Dressel 2-4), but also from the Ebro valley (Regional IV). The other outstanding imports are the Italian wine amphorae, since they include not only Thyrrenian types but a good sample of North Adriatic vessels (Dressel 6B, Dressel 2-4, Lamboglia 2). This distinctive pattern of consumption may have been due to the origin of the soldiers from the Legio IIII Macedonica settled at Herrera, who came from Northern Italy.
