Resumen
The essay «De la influència en literatura» by André Gide defends that the relation with different artistic manifestations stimulates the creator and the literature. This text, the first work of Gide translated from French into Catalan, was published in 1900 in the review Pèl & Ploma. At the turn of the century, in France, the discussion about nationalism and literature included some voices opposed to the foreign literature importation. In the edited text, Gide contradicts these opinions. The purpose of regeneration and Europeanization aimed by Catalan «Modernisme», largely materialized by the incorporation of foreign literature through translation, contrasts with the tensions existing in the French literary field, which were often connected to confronted political positions.
