This dissertation studies the Cognitive Grammar’s theoretical principles application to the analysis, description and representation of the Spanish spatial prepositional system, with two main objectives. First, we will attempt to make a theoretical contribution to Spanish Linguistics by advancing towards a unitary definition capable of taking account of all the semantic values of each particle. In order to achieve that, we will design and apply a specific analytic model based on Cognitive Grammar’s theoretical construals and descriptive methods. Thus, we will build visual abstract representations that aim to grasp the semantic core of each preposition, something different from the lists of use and prescriptive rules provided by other descriptive models. Secondly, we will test the pedagogical value of this kind of representations through a small study of case. We will conclude analyzing this study of case’s results and their impact in this dissertation’s internal validation.
