Trayectorias educativas en contextos de desigualdad. Un recorrido por las experiencias de los participantes del estudio cualitativo longitudinal Niños del Milenio

Student thesis: Doctoral thesis

Abstract

Evidence in Peru points out that, despite the expansion in access to education, educational inequalities persist, affecting the educational trajectories mainly of young people between 12 and 16 years old (Ames, 2005; Alcázar, 2009; Benavides, 2007). Thus, there are differences in students' opportunities for access, permanence, and progress in contexts of vulnerability and poverty. Based on qualitative and longitudinal information collected in Peru (in the framework of the international and longitudinal study Children of the Millennium - Young Lives), we propose an approach to understanding the educational trajectories of a group of 22 young people in different contexts of the country, considering the role of their economic, social and cultural capital. Analyzing their trajectories and highlighting their relational factors indicate the urgency of addressing educational inequalities considering the extracurricular environment.
