Raons i maneres de pensar la Recerca Artística

Abstract

This text is based on the necessity to facilitate the understanding of the term Artistic Research. Even though it's been more than 20 years since we speak about it, and there is already a considerable bibliography of the subject, at least in the Catalan panorama, there are multiple practices that self-identify as Artistic Research and that are enough different from each other to pay attention to them. My aim in this text will not be to distinguish between what is and what is not Artistic Research but, on one hand, to study in more detail the circumstances of the term emergence so we can easily understand the situation in what we find ourselves. This will lead me to the creation of a sort of Genealogy by asking myself why we are talking about Artistic Research and that will lead us to economic and epistemological derivatives. On the other hand, I will also build a theoretical tool that is intended both to make it easier for us to understand the artistic research and to help researchers approach their research in a more conscious way. In order to achieve this objective, I will ask myself how we have understood the practice of artistic research through a critical review of the Borgdorff approach of research on, for and in the arts. The reason I chose this text is because, in the Catalan panorama, it has become a foundational text that researchers constantly refer to. My approach is that all practices that identify themselves as Artistic Research have strong reasons to do so. We just need to taxonomize each case so that it makes sense in every possible context. The final result of this research will led us to a short story of Artistic Research, in which we will see all the factors and circumstances that have led us to this situation, a little complex but of great potential for the debate on different ways of knowing.
