This study belongs to the area of teaching and learning of literature and is specifically interested in the impact of a school reading planning in the training of literary readers. In particular, the type and evolution of 18 students reader responses are analysed. They form a natural class group and have participated for four years in a weekly discussion on literary texts. In this sense, it is a longitudinal research, a characteristic that makes it differ from the majority of studies dealing the training of the literary reader and reader responses. In this research, the types of responses are analysed and therefore, the relations students create with texts as well as the relevant elements that help them understand their meanings. Evolution and progressive learning are shown in this study, as well as the specific impact of all the teaching strategies implemented and the strong relations and feedback between the consolidation of the reading habits and the improvement of the literary competence to interpret literary texts.
