Abstract
The inflationary presence of label journalistic style in professional and many academic productions has not gone accompanied, in general, of a solid reflection on his roots or his scope in journalistic texts. The reference to this notion has occurred in an acritical way, assimilated without taking an adequate distance and reproduced as a guarantee of objectivity, as a synonymous of a recipes arsenal to fight the subjectivity. For supporting the illusion that it is possible to conceive journalistic texts naked, undressed of the subjective look of that one who has written them. This double contradiction, the paradoxical defence of an idea of style untied from his origins and, at the same time, undifferent to his empirical expression, to the effective manifestation in the mass media, has guided the interest of this thesis. And this has defined a research that takes as a principal object the development of a systematical proposal for a pragmastylistic study of informative/interpretive journalistic discourse, the theoretical and methodological criteria that mark the analysis of journalistic texts. The objective, finally, is to build a valid proposal to take the dust to different styles that coexist in printed media -in accordance with the definition of style that we take as a started point- in order to know the different ways of seeing and building the reality in journalistic productions. The secondary objective of this thesis is the validation of the proposal from the application to a sample of texts in order to decipher the strategies and implications that endure the different ways of saying.
After stating the diversity and heterogeneity of style's definitions we need to go to the origins, to look for this concept proceeds, which raises us a multidisciplinary approach, following the research line that, for a few years, is been opening the seams of a usually autarkic communication studies. That explains the need to look over different disciplines that have his center of attention in the verbal expression, like the Rhetoric or the Stylistics. This one, through different schools, ends in a Pragmatics where we place the study of journalistic styles, like concrete communicative achievements.
This search also includes the basic reflection on the most stretched concept from journalistic style and that's why it covers to a discipline with centuries of experience investigating in the limits between language and reality: the philosophy, to defend, in line with critical linguistics, the indissoluble unit of form and content, in front of those who send the style to the picking out area without semantic consequences.
This thesis develops a methodological proposal that starts from a style's concept review in communication studies. From the idea of a plurality of ways of saying and his implications, this thesis broach the conditions that intervene in the communication and reception of journalistic texts, across three key notions: genres, registers -situational variables or circumstances that surround the publication of an article- and styles, which interrelates the previous ones with the author's figure like a configurative instance of a reality that helps to designate and create. This configuration is explicit from a whole series of observable and analyzable linguistic marks, which are described in the analysis' method.
Youthness of the comunicative studies drive us to loan to other disciplines, like Linguistics and Stylistics, tools to an approach to journalistic texts. Also to design a method that could realize the diversity of styles that coexist on the daily printed pages, linking them to the tasks in which the journalist leaves, inevitably, their treads. And, not only to state the plurality of voices that report the current but, above all, to investigate in the cognitive implications that raise the different ways of saying.
