Since 1837, the Fundació Conservatori Liceu has carried out its teaching work uninterruptedly. Its Vocal Department has been formed of professors and students who have become relevant in the national and international opera scene. Can a teaching institution, active for almost 200 years, combine the reception of different vocal traditions and, at the same time, carry out its own pedagogical approach? To what degree have foreign methodological currents been implemented? Which one has outweighed? Is it possible to create characteristic technical criteria or own pedagogical lines thanks to the different chains of knowledge transmission formed over time?_x000D_

The study of the origins, development, and work of important treatises of the main vocal technical traditions in Europe (Italian school, French school, German school, and English school) allows us to trace a characterization of each of them and learn about the evolution of vocal technique in Europe during the last 3 centuries. The Fundació Conservatori Liceu archive contains, among other documents, the names, and years of teaching of most teachers linked to its Department of Singing, as well as the name, years of study and teachers of most students. The study of the training, the repertoire, and the geographical space where the most relevant teachers and students developed their artistic or teaching activity, and the crossing of these data, provided evidence of the reception of the different European vocal technical traditions at the Conservatori del Liceu and on the characteristics of the pedagogical lines and chains of knowledge transmission created in the scope of its Singing Department.
