Polybenzoxazines are a special type of phenolic resins that, since their discovery, have attracted the interest of the scientific community due to their excellent thermal, chemical and mechanical properties. The high polymerization temperatures of their monomers, benzoxazines, can expect the greatest handicap of these materials (> 200 °C), making the reduction of this parameter one of the major objects of study in this field. In this work, the use of different catalysts in the reduction of the polymerization temperature of 1,3-benzoxazines is investigated. This study will promote the discovery of a photothermal effect manifested in a group of (bis)benzoxazines, in the presence of different catalysts and visible irradiation, which will serve to polymerize these monomers in a completely new way in the field of polybenzoxazines and obtain materials with Some characteristics different from those presented by polybenzoxazines obtained in a more conventional way. This photothermal effect will also be observed in the polymers obtained, giving the use of polybenzoxazines in different applications widely used today, such as self-healing of materials and photothermal therapy, as well as being very useful as promoting species of different chemical reactions.
