Student thesis: Doctoral thesis

Abstract

The research Cyberactivism in Colombia: a commitment for new public agendas is based on the studies of Doctorate in Content of Communication in the Digital Age and its objective was focused on characterizing the event of cyberactivism of greater representativeness in Colombia in the last decade and its transcendence in citizen practices in the aspiration for social change._x000D_ To achieve this goal, we implemented a Multi-Unit Case Study design, with explicative-descriptive purposes on the various factors that influence the phenomenon of cyber-activism in Colombia. Therefore, an analysis of the relationship between theories that expose cyberactivism and the reality was object of study._x000D_ It was investigated from the point of view that virtual communities are characterized by meanings that give sense to their participation in the virtuality, in such a way that any study on them can be separated from this reality and conceive them as autonomous and separate from its reference in the real society._x000D_ Based on previously defined categories, a methodological development was carried out that included information collection techniques, such as opinion polls and in-depth interviews. Likewise, content analyzes of routines and narratives were done on digital social networks and publications in the country's most important printed newspaper. Therefore, the findings allowed identifying the dynamics of cyberactivism in Colombia and determining its magnitude in the real scenario from the practices of citizen mobilization._x000D_ The results reveal the case of cyberactivism Ola Verde as the most representative in this field for the country. The leverage in the development of digital content, particularly on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, became scenarios to generate actions of notices, visibility and mobilization, as well as, to promote partnerships and support, to express positions regarding various short-term facts to Colombia . Therefore, this case marked a landmark on the use of the digital stage and its relationship with activism, politics and citizenship 2.0._x000D_ However, the investigation demonstrated, in the field of the politics 2.0, how citizens grant meaning to their participation in online social networks, departing from individual autonomy to generate collective actions that manage to affirm their commitment in the struggle for better living conditions. Nevertheless, in the Colombian case, the possibility of exercising power from the network society implies strengthening a political culture that promotes knowledge and attitudes of citizens towards different aspects of political life in order to have a real impact on quality of democracy.
