Water chain intervention in hydrolytic and tautomeric reactions

Abstract

Water chain intervention in the hydrolysis of methyl fluoride and in some tautomeric 1,3 proton transfer reactions has been studied. The results show that in solution the process are neither unimolecular nor bimolecular as in the gas phase, but are multimolecular, where the geometric parameters of the solvent intervene in the reaction coordinate.
