    Abstract

This study of NIR spectroscopy includes a brief history of the development and uses of NIR spectroscopy, a description of calibration techniques, notes on the applications of the NIR technique in the textile industry and a discussion of the use of this technique to determine the quantity of reviving oils in synthetic fibres. An experiment to determine AC 6/13 reviving oil in 86 samples of acrylic fibres is described. It is concluded that NIR spectroscopy is a suitable technique for determining reviving oils in acrylic fibres.
