We investigate the uniaxial-stress dependence of 1, 3, and 5 Raman-active modes of MgF2 and deduce the deformation potentials associated with uniaxial compressions parallel to the c, a, or a2 crystallographic axis, respectively. Next, we compute theoretical values considering both the stress-induced change in the short-range lattice potential and the long-range Coulomb interaction. Very satisfactory agreement is found between experimental and theoretical values. © 1981 The American Physical Society.
