Abstract

The possible depiction of a figurative cycle based on the Carolingian repertoire (Chanson de Roland, Historia Turpini) in the remains from the no longer extant Romanesque cloister of the old canons’ house at Santa Maria de Solsona (1163-1195) raises several questions relating to the interest and diffusion of this epic cycle in the Catalan context of the last third of the 12th century. With this end, a series of texts and images that bear witness to the reception of this repertoire in these lands will be analysed, as well as the reasons that led to the incorporation of this theme into the monumental decoration of religious buildings
