Abstract

Type 2 diabetes is considered an adult disease. However, over recent years, this, and especially type 2 prediabetes, have begun to be observed in pediatric populations linked to the development of obesity. Prenatal and postnatal factors have been identified which, alone and especially when associated to obesity, may condition the early appearance of glucose intolerance and even type 2 diabetes in the pediatric age. Early identification and treatment of type 2 prediabetes in a task in which the psychiatrics should become involved, especially in the risk populations.
