Abstract
© 2018 CSIC. The aim of this paper is to analyse the two Romanesque altar frontals which consecutively decorated the altar of the abbey church of Sant Sadurní de Tavèrnoles. Both panels were related, but in a very different way, to the consecration document of Tavèrnoles, a fascinating forgery that recalls the political context of the northern region of the county of Urgell. This context directly influenced the panels: it explains the destruction of the first in 1092, and it determines the iconographic programme of the second, made in the third quarter of the 12th century.
