Abstract

In recent years, the expansion of the high-speed rail network in Spain has generated a growing interest in urban and territorial development policies and in how they are analysed by academia. The present article adds to these studies by making an effort to identify policy issues that may help public bodies to maximize the opportunities that this infrastructure creates. Along these lines, the article identifies: development opportunities; the effects of providing this type of infrastructure and the services that it offers; and the policies and actions that can be implemented at the local scale in order to take the fullest advantage of the opportunities available.
