Abstract

Sports transitions is an emerging topic in international research, but quiteunexploredin Latin America in the last 14years. The objective of this study is to review in Spanish, English and Portuguesepublications, through mapping review of the transitionsofLatin American athletes from the year 2005 to 2022. The research was realized inREDIB, DOAJ, SCIENCE DIRECT, REDALYC, SCIELO, and expandedto regional journals and documents from a reference list; selecting 19 documents that integrate empirical data. We identified that; (a) studies on sports transitions are increasing, with Brazil being the country with the highest production, (b) retirement is the most studied transition and footballthe most explored sport, (c) the theoretical models that support research such as de Wylleman (2019) and Stambulova (2000, 2003) areaworldwide reference, with few theoretical contributions from the region, (d) environmental elements and personal factors are recognized as incident factors in transitions. The need to carry out longitudinal and situated studies is evident, which need to contemplate the cultural conditions and the environments with a clear incidence in the transitions; and enrich the theoretical contributions by broadening the perspective of traditional Sport Psychology.
