Abstract

The article analyses the process of translation into Catalan of Lampedusa beach (2003) by Lina Prosa, a poetic and political text that tells in the first person the story of a migrant woman who drowns during the crossing to reach Lampedusa. The short drama constitutes the first part of the Trilogia del Naufragio (2013). In Barcelona the text was staged for the first time in 2014 at the Akadèmia theatre, translated by Anna Soler Horta and directed by Moisès Maicas. Translating for the stage involves a complex interlinguistic, intersemiotic and intercultural metamorphosis. Starting from translation studies and theatre studies, my investigation aims to highlight how these three levels are intertwined in the specific case of the transposition into Catalan of Lampedusa beach in Barcelona.
