Abstract
The continuously increasing annual increments of tourists in Luxor (Egypt), focalized in very few places such as the Valley of the Kings at the West Bank, hardly help the conservation of the ancient monuments and tourist enjoyment. In order to relieve that problem the authors carried out a study of the tourism potential of the Sheikh Abd el- Qurna Necropolis utilizing a methodology to assess both the intrinsic and recreational values of the site. Effective management plans and putting new areas into value with great tourism potential, such as Sheikh Abd el-Qurna, could alleviate to some degree tourist congestion and the very serious preservation problems facing the historic monuments. © 2013 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
