The essential oil from leaves of salvia canariensis L

Abstract

The composition of the essential oil of the leaves of Salvia canariensis L. obtained by hydrodistillation was investigated by GC–FID, GC–MS and GC–FTIR. The main constituents of the oil were the sesquiterpenes β‐caryophyllene (30%) and globulol (17%), together with the monoterpenes bornyl acetate (17%), α‐pinene (10%) and camphene (8%). The structure of globulol was assigned using IR, mass and mainly NMR spectroscopy, after isolation of the compound by column chromatography. The assigned NMR data of globulol are given.
