The article analyzes the process to the establishment of the Consulate of the USSR in Barcelona on the 1st October of 1936. This decision had different ramifications and was executed by die direction of the Foreign Affairs Commissariat People (NKID) and the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. The mechanisms that were applied to select the consular staff are reconstructed; how they moved from Moscow to Barcelona; which elements of friction were produced before die arrival in the Catalan capital; and, finally, which steps were carried out for formalizing officially its presence in Catalonia.
