Abstract
The depletion of energy resources on a worldwide basis -caused by the giddy increase of oil demand in recent years- has prompted the emergence of a new international order in which the provisioning and secure supply of this resource has become an aspect of vital interest in the economic and political agenda of every country. As consequence of this crisis, nations strive to assure a position within the reduced spectrum of petroleum availability. For this sake, many will consider proper the use of force to protect the access to this much appreciated
resource, and thus to assure the defense of their economic system. Such is the case of the United States which since several decades ago has assured an extensive supply of this resource forcefully. The events of 9/11 have given this country a new justification to intervene and a new enemy to fight: international terrorism.
