Abstract
This article aims to approach the historical context that led to the rise of tyranny in Naxos. This will leave the curious story of Telestagoras and its relationship with an equally curious proverb collected by Athenaeus. Both metaphorical reading reveals a conflict of interest between an oligarchy and a new kind of traditional sector of the island that is resolved with the intervention of a third actor, Lygdamis He becomes a tyrant of the island.
