Abstract
The project of a Synchrotron Laboratory in Barcelona is presented. Its feasibility was analyzed by a special committee created in July 1992 and was approved by the Regional Government of Catalonia in February 1993 in its Research Plan for 1993-1996. Since then a Steering Committee and an Advisory Committee have been operating and the firsts steps have been taken: the agreement for collaboration with the Spanish Administration, the choice of a possible site with the appropriated geotechnical characteristics and the search for provisional headquarters. Since experience in the field of accelerator sciences and technologies is very scarce in Spain, we are starting a training program for young graduate students and recent Ph.D. and a program dedicated to local industries.
