Abstract

A survey, based on 2000 laparotomies, of the incidence and aetiology of abdominal reoperations on infants and children is presented. An analysis of second laparotomies, with special attention to the real causes of aetiological complications, is also included. Great stress is laid on the decisive part played by surgical errors (in technique or tactics) in the aetiology of a second laparotomy.
