Abstract

Dramatic progress has been made in the field of pediatrics in Spain, which has achieved a preeminent position within the European Union. Nevertheless, the continuing increase in the demand for care, resulting from immigration and a rising birth rate, together with the relative scarcity of pediatricians to provide that care, are important challenges for the immediate future. Pediatricians are probably the physicians who utilize the greatest diversity of medications and face the most complex therapeutic tasks, To prevent these risk situations from becoming real problems affecting pediatric activity, it is essential that all the sectors involved, at every level, act accordingly.
