Using Monte Carlo simulations the specific heat of the three-dimensional SO(3) lattice gauge theory has been measured. We have found a smooth but clear peak in the specific heat, with size independent of the lattice volume. Phase transitions of first and. second order have been excluded. This peak in the specific heat can be considered as a remainder of the four-dimensional first-order tramsition. © 1987.
