Abstract

Double-complex salts of formula [CoH2O(NH3)5][Co(CN)5X] (X = CN, Cl, Br, I, NO2, N3) have been synthesized and characterized. Dinuclear μ-CN compounds [(NH3)5CoNCCo(CN)4X] (X = CN, Cl, Br, I, NO2, N3) have been prepared by controlled heating of the aforementioned double-complex salts. These dinuclear compounds have been characterized by methods such as 59Co NMR spectrometry and IR and UV-visible spectrophotometry. The double-complex salts have been proven by X-ray powder diffraction techniques to be isostructural with [Co(NH3)6][Co(CN)6]. Several unit cell parameters have been calculated and discussed. The solid-phase thermal deaquation-anation of the double-complex salts has been studied by nonisothermal methods, and several kinetics parameters have been calculated. The activation energy values of these processes have been related to the unit cell parameters. © 1986, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
