Simenon adapted by Josep M. Poblet. An ethical choice

Research output: Contribution to journalArticleResearchpeer-review

Abstract

Josep M. Poblet play El crim dels quatre cantons was an adaptation from La nuit du carrefour, by Georges Simenon. The adaptation was accurate and fully faithful to the original, performing in a single stage set the three spaces where the action takes place. His care makes us wonder why during the Franco dictatorship Poblet chose a play where its main character, Jules Maigret, is the prototype of a police officer, the kind of civil servant that's difficult to link with Poblet in that time. Our thesis is that the choice is no coincidence and might be much more related to ethics than it seems.
