Abstract
The dimeric precursor complex {Rh<inf>2</inf>[μ-S(CH<inf>2</inf>) <inf>3</inf>N(Me)<inf>2</inf>]<inf>2</inf> (Cod)<inf>2</inf>}, (cod = cyclo-octa-1,5-diene), with PPh<inf>3</inf> catalyses the hydroformylation of hex-1-ene, under mild conditions, into heptanals with high yields and selectivities; owing to the presence of the amine group the rhodium catalyst can be quantitatively recovered from the reaction mixture by adding dilute H <inf>2</inf>SO<inf>4</inf>, and reused without loss of activity.
