N2 - This report is the final version of CapHaz-Net’s Work package (WP) 3 on risk perception and natural hazards. It is part of the project’s broader efforts to review the state of the art of social science research on natural hazards and disasters. Together with the report on ‘Social Vulnerability’ (WP4) it was discussed during a workshop on 11 & 12 March 2010 in Haigerloch, Germany. This workshop was an unique opportunity to discuss the ideas presented in this report with a number of experts in this field and to further improve the content and the structure of the WP 3 report. Thanks to all experts, the very helpful remarks, comments and case study contributions were included into this version 1.2. of the WP3 report. But still this collection of experience in the field of natural hazard perception in Europe is an ongoing process. All critical remarks as well as further state-of-the-art knowledge, examples of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ practices in the field of natural hazard mitigation and adaptation, case study descriptions as well as open research questions are very welcome.
