Abstract

The aim of this paper is to account for the contributions of three trends in Psychology explaining the cultural diversity and articulation of proposals for educational intervention in multicultural environments. First, we present the study of acculturation processes of immigrant groups as well as the integration strategies of such groups and of institutions of the host country. Second, we review research work on cultural difference, starting with cross-cultural studies and continuing with approaches focusing on cultural change through transgenerational studies. Finally, we analyse the perspective of cultural psychology, attending to the notions of practice, artefacts and discourse to explain the school experience of minority group members. © 2012 Fundación Infancia y Aprendizaje.
