    Abstract

A descriptive study about the prevalence of depressive syndrome in a sample of 283 schoolteenagers (within the ages of 13 and 15) at the Barcelones region (Catalunya-Spain) is presented. As assessment instrument we used an open interview carried on by two independent clinicians in order to classify the individuals into the following categories: Major Depressive Disorder; Adaptative Disorder with depressive mood or Distimic Disorder (criteria of duration not included) with DSM-III-R diagnostic criteria. The Children Depression Inventory (CDI) (Kovacs, 1983), has also been administered. Results show a 14.2% of the teeneagers presenting a depressive syndrome. Being more common in the low socioeconomic classes.
