Abstract

This monographic approaches to some of the main phenomena affecting modern democracies, particularly European ones, as well as some of the answers offered - from academia, from civil society or from the public institutions - these challenges. In addressing this issue, the monograph also aims to honor the intellectual trajectory of Professor in Political Science Pedro Ibarra Güell. Hereinafter, briefly discussed these two objectives. Surely not desirable from the standpoint of theoretical provide a unified narrative of the changes and unresolved problems of democracies present. Among other reasons, because a single theoretical approach or a single story, hardly realize the complexity of the processes of change that are embedded in liberal democracies. Yes seems more feasible, however, mention some of these changes and challenges, almost unexpectedly order to properly frame the content of this special issue and present its thematic unity. It should be noted, in any case, many of these challenges are by no means novel, although they may have acquired new nuances in recent times.
