Abstract
This article presents some of the results obtained from the analysis of residential registration and termination data in a group of municipalities in the Baix Empordà county over the periods from 1966-1970 and 1981-1985. The origin and destination of the migratory flows, age profiles and the effect on the labour market are the main issued covered here. The first five-year period corresponds to the Spanish population's largest period of migration, caused by the structural changes undergone both by the population itself and by the Spanish economy. The second five-year period analysed reflects the characteristics of such flow at a time of economic crisis and of a profound re-composition of the system of Catalan and Spanish mobility. Use of the residential registration and termination data on file in various municipal archives allows for a detailed observation of the characteristics of these migratory flows for spatial scales-municipalities and counties about which, until very recent times, no kind of information had been provided by statistical organisations.
