Abstract
The article contextualises Domènec de Bellmunt’s cultural and political activity during his exile in Toulouse between 1939 and 1950. From the vast amount of activity, he engaged in there, it discusses, in detail, his doctoral thesis De quelques conséquences de l’exode espagnol en France dans les domaines du droit international public et privé (1950). A pioneer in its field, the text represented a noteworthy contribution to the study of international law, both public and private, and aspired to reveal some of the repercussions in the legal order caused by the Republican exodus of 1939. Of special interest are the pages he devotes to denouncing the imprisonment and assassination of Lluís Companys, events in which Franco’s regime violated the laws, the customs of war and the founding principles of international law with impunity.
