Abstract
The oxygen generation produced under uv light in aqueous suspensions of ZnO containing Hg(II), Ag(I) and CrO2-4 ions as conduction band electron acceptors, has been investigated. It is shown that the main source of the oxygen produced comes from the water oxidation, and that the rate of oxygen uptake depends on the efficiency of the different electron acceptors to scavenge the photogenerated electrons in the conduction band of the semiconductor. © 1987.
