    Abstract

After six years of experience in multilingual subtitling of opera, in the framework of Òpera oberta, led by the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and with the collaboration of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the essential characteristics of this kind of translation, intended to be broadcast live via Internet, are defined. The technique of translation, generally and literal slightly compressive takes into account also the role of the text in the story and in the musical development of the work. The age and style of each opera determine, therefore, a second level of technicality. Finally, strategies tailored to vocal function determine as well a port of the sense.
