Abstract

© 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. This chapter revisits some features of online gas analysis in bioprocesses regarding the framework of process analytical technologies for monitoring and control. The fundamentals of gas composition measurement and its application to determination of the oxygen uptake rate and carbon dioxide evolution rate are discussed, followed by a review of available instrumentation. A brief description of software sensors is combined with their application to bacterial and yeast cultures, which are fully detailed.
