Abstract
The Diccionario general de arquitectura e ingeniería is one of the most significant compilations of technical vocabulary of the 19th century. This study describes the scientific and linguistic situation in which the dictionary appeared, and analyses its content, both in terms of its nomenclature and the information it offers. The work is therefore a true technical dictionary (beyond what the title may suggest), which recovers a major part of the technical vocabulary of the arts and reflects the tensions of specialised neologisms in the technical Spanish of the end of the 19th century.
