Abstract

In a previous article, a first definition and initial characterization of a cluster of host Teotihuacan figurines was proposed, detecting common features and defining two possible formal groups. In this second phase of the study, the sample has been expanded and we have proceeded to review and discuss the contexts, chronologies and interpretations given to these paradigmatic ceramic sculptures. We suggest that the host figurines were part of a domestic cult to venerate the ancestors. They acted as supernatural entities that sheltered the guests and embodied ancestors related to the residents of the domestic compounds where the figures had been displayed.
