O projecto arqueológico «Médio Eufrates Sírio»: Resultados provisórios da primeira campanha

In this paper, we present the provisory results of the first campaign (2005) of
the archaeological project “Syrian Middle Euphrates”. This research project in ancient Mesopotamia is co-ordinated by University of A Coruña and by General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums of Syria and has the contribution of CSIC and other Spanish universities, and of New University of Lisbon, as well. The aim of this project is the study of a sector of the valley of Middle Euphrates (in the province of Deir ez-Zor, Syria) and of its relation with the syro-mesopotamian kingdom of Mari. In the 2005 campaign, works had been concentrated in two sectors: in the southern area, several sites from Bronze Age were identified through archaeological survey; in the northern area, some archaeological sondages took place in the Byzantine site of Tall as-Sin.
