A nonequilibrium Gibbs function previously used in the theoretical analysis of the shift of the spinodal line of some polymer solutions under shear is applied in this paper to the analysis of the shear-induced degradation. The agreement of the predictions and the experimental data underlines the usefulness of the generalized thermodynamic potential depending on the shear rate. © Copyright 1994 Walter de Gruyter.
